A perpetual love affair will commence on your first
visit to Ranier. The small historical village with a population
of one hundred ninety eight, is surrounded by beauty.
|
|
In the 1600's, the first Voyageur
Outpost was constructed on the Ranier side of Rainy River. Timber,
lumberjacks, ladies-of-the-night, prohibition, commercial fishing,
artists and independent characters have all contributed to the spirit
of the village. And yet, there remains an aura of innocence in Ranier.

|
A forty foot high "Voyageur" statue greets
you upon entering the village. There are parks, beaches, tennis
courts, village hall, liquor store, historical bank building, post office and trains. Also, famous Grandma's
Pantry Restaurant, F.R. Woody's waterfront pub, Spruce Street Landing
(shops and art gallery). There are two public docks, a boat ramp
and guide service available. Just in case you have boat problems,
Fred's Marine Shop is just down the block. For an international
adventure, you can hike on the trail from Ranier to International
Falls and then cross the border to Canada to access their waterfront trail. If you prefer to explore Ranier,
take a 2.4 mile walk around the village - map provided on this page.
